About ALL THE WAYS IN
ALL THE WAYS IN is a budding collective of spiritual enthusiasts interested in exploring the joy and benefits of an awakening life. We are currently offering individual one-on-one coaching sessions. Our approach at ALL THE WAYS IN is inclusive, eclectic, ethical, and anchored in the great contemplative traditions, psychology, and science. Founded by two gay men who happen to be husbands, this approach honors and builds on the process of self-reflection, discovery, and inner sense of knowing that was essential to our own coming out process.
Coming out as gay freed us to be our truer selves. And since then, we have found other WAYS IN which provide an even deeper, expansive, and liberating experience of knowing one’s true, essential nature—namely, that we are all fully whole and complete, worthy of love, part of and belonging to all of creation, and possessing essential qualities beyond measure. This realization was (and continues to be) a game changer. A whole new way of being in the world.
ALL THE WAYS IN respects there may be healthy amounts of skepticism. So many of us have been wounded or scapegoated by organized religions steeped in dogma. We too were turned off by religion. It took many years to feel that pull again, to recognize there must be something more, a deeper purpose to everything.
Luckily, just as our younger selves learned to glimpse through the cracks of our heteronormative society and upbringing to see the vibrancy of queer experience that flourished—and waited for us—beneath, we were able to apply that same process to find other WAYS IN that took us to deeper dimensions of discovery and self-realization.
For us, a sense of trust (and embodied truth) came from our ability to cross-reference and recognize the fundamental wisdom central to various spiritual, contemplative, and mystical traditions and practices. Add to this a recognition of the infinite practices and combinations of approaches that might bring one closer to mindfulness, joy, peace, gratitude, that might spark creativity and connection. Suddenly, we understood that no one WAY IN captured the complete truth. Like the colors of the Pride flag, the essence—and power—is found in the array of approaches, all containing unique expressions of wisdom, love, joy, and vibrancy.
Our focus
We hope you’ll join us for ALL THE WAYS IN: An Exploration of Awakening Life. Here are some of things we will focus on in our work together:
Sharing our experience and guiding one’s exploration of the various WAYS IN. This includes how to apply appropriate discernment to ensure a given path is ethical and inclusive in its approach and application.
Teaching foundational meditative and insight practices. These are not only valuable on their own, but can serve as the bedrock for more advanced practices.
Guiding ones understanding, application, and integration of more advanced practices. This can lead to deep insights and awakening experiences. From here we continue teaching and supporting ongoing integration of insights so they can be safely metabolized and maintained.
Offering strategies and support to awaken in relationship. This allows for a spaciousness, an ability to relate to one another from a place of non-defense, curiosity, love, and understanding. This also helps to heal relational wounding that so often occurs in the coming out process and which can be triggered by ongoing exposure to people who are homophobic and transphobic.
Exploring spiritual and psychological practices for being present and regulating your nervous system when the world seems scary. The use of presence and an embodied recognition of everyone’s intrinsic worth is an essential resource as we work to heal our hurting, fractured world. Anchoring in one’s worth and presence, beyond ego identity, helps us builds tolerance, lets us listen and learn, helps us engage in “hot button” topics more skillfully, and course-correct when we’re wrong.
Experiencing “waking up” among and in relationship with others. Through ongoing community sangha sits and longer virtual and in-person retreats, we allow for deeper dives into various WAYS IN. Community practice like this provides shared, nurturing support, as well as opportunities to practice living from a place of awakening realization all the time—both on and off the cushion. Community gatherings also offer invaluable experience in being “out” as a spiritual person. They help build confidence as we bring our fuller selves into our broader communities. It can also be extremely healing and reparative to the nervous system.
Sharing stories of adventure and discovery. Given the brilliance of the universe, there is so much joy in experiencing and being in the world through the lenses of these advanced practices. We teach how to use a level of realization and understanding achieved by one WAY IN to better understand and experience the perspective provided by other WAYS IN. It’s like finding more clues to a treasure map or another piece of the jigsaw puzzle, further expanding insights and realization.
Coaching and support to integrate one’s ongoing process. This is so we can, as Ken Wilber coined it, continue to wake up, clean up, grow up, and show up in the world. What needed medicine at this point in Earth’s evolution! And how great to know that we all have our part to play in the unfolding.
